Groundwater is the water present beneath the Earth’s surface and constitute 30 percent of available fresh water.
Precipitation in the form of rain, snow, sleet returns water to the earth’s surface. Some of what falls percolates through the ground and creates subsurface flow in aquifers, while the rest remains on the surface and gathers in a system of streams and rivers.
